OCD ARMM has conducted a one-day orientation on "Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) for the Provincial Officers and Employees of Maguindanao and other government line agencies held at Edjin Pension House and Restaurant, Tacurong City on 28 March 2016.
The conduct of the activity is pursuant to the objective of NDRRMC Chief and Civil Defense Administrator Alexander P. Pama to further strengthen the capacity the disaster managers most especially those in the level of local government.
“The PDRA is significant so it would be clear to everyone how they would respond. This is for them to design appropriate responses according to their needs, “said Pama.
Myrna J. Angot, OIC of the OCD-ARMM, said the activity is important for disaster managers most especially at the local level to understand the risk factors in their areas and would have possibly translate into proper responses.
Alexander Manuel, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer, said that the DRRM as per stipulated in the RA 10121 is a top priority of the provincial government most especially that the province is often visited not only by natural disasters but also of recurring human induced (armed conflict) incidents.
Meantime, Angot said there is still a need for more effort to make the public understand disaster warnings and translate it in the vernacular most especially to those who are from the countryside, and as well understand the impact of disasters on their lives.
Aside from the participants, other government line agencies and partners present during the activity include the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Cotabato Chapter, Department of Interior and Local Government-ARMM, Department of Social Welfare and Development-ARMM, PAGASA Cotabato, PHIVOLCS Cotabato and the 603rd Brigade of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, Philippine Army.
