Mount Kanlaon, an active volcano located on Negros Island, remained restive today although it was more calm compared to the last 29 March 2016 eruption. Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismologystill hoisted the Alert Level 1 following a phreatic explosion. The alert level indicated that the volcano remained in an abnormal condition and was in a period of unrest.
On 30 March 2016,a long column of grass fires were raging at the upper Mansalanao, Cabagnaan and Biak naBato portion of the volcano in La Castellana. It was suspected to have been caused by materials spewed during the explosion and there was a possibility that it could reach the forested area about 4 kilometers away as Provincial Environment and Natural Resources OfficerAndresUntal said.
Provincial Government of Negros Occidental huddle for an emergency meeting to stop the fire in progress to reach the forest area and to establish the Provincial Incident Management Team and to activate the incident command system with Superintendent Rodolfo Denaga being the Incident Commander. The Incident Command Post was located in Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park Administrative Building in Municipality of La Castellana where personnel from OCD NIRcoordinated for the progress of the operation. Fire out was declared by the incident commander at 12:00 NN of 31 March 2016.
Involved in the Operations were personnel fromDENR, BFP, Provincial DRRM Office and Local DRRMCouncils of Candoni and La Castellana.
