The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council through the Office of Civil Defense will hold various online activities for the Third Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) to continuously instill to the public earthquake preparedness amid the pandemic.

Unlike the usual conduct of the NSED, OCD will hold a facebook live stream of the ceremonial pressing of the button to signal the duck, cover, and hold procedure on September 10, 2020 at 2 p.m. The public is encouraged to watch the live stream and do the duck, cover, and hold in their houses.

Aside from this, an online quiz bee will be launched on September 7, 10 a.m., the mechanics of which are to be announced on the Civil Defense PH facebook page.

A webinar on earthquake preparedness and response in the New Normal is scheduled on September 8, 10 a.m to 12 nn. Resource persons from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will join the virtual discussion.

The OCD is also set to update the National and Regional Public Service Continuity Plans as well as its Contingency Plans to integrate COVID-19 health measures.

Civil Defense Administrator Ricardo Jalad meanwhile, called on the public to participate in these activities on earthquake preparedness.

"Despite our current situation, we must bear in mind the importance of keeping ourselves safe. I encourage the public to continuously engage in activities that promote earthquake safety. In our constant effort to promote disaster resilience, everyone’s involvement is necessary.” he said.
