Activities of some unscrupulous members of society have been reported to authorities in the Office of Civil Defense. These involve the clandestine solicitation of funds from suppliers and private citizens in the name of NDRRMC, OCD or the Civil Defense Administrator to supposedly finance the Covid19 effort as well as other “side-projects”.
“We would like to caution our countrymen from dealing with these dishonest characters who are impersonating NDRRMC Officials and staff to solicit funds,” warns Undersecretary Ricardo B Jalad, NDRRMC Executive director and Civil Defense Administrator. “We publish the list of items that are required in the response efforts and we formally communicate with donors and suppliers using official channels,” he added.
This warning was issued after information on various solicitations being made by some persons posing as NDRRMC and OCD officials asking for monetary donations were reported to OCD.
“No NDRRMC or OCD official will contact anyone using an unregistered or third-party contact number and ask for funds to be deposited to personal accounts or money transfer outlets. The public is advised to contact the NDRRMC hotline or call the local police if they encounter such bogus solicitations and not to give out any item or amount to these.” Usec Jalad said.
Those who wish to donate cash are only advised to deposit their donations in the official NDRRMC bank account in the Development Bank of the Philippines and not to personal accounts or via money transfer outlets.
Efforts to gather needed supplies to support COVID19-attending facilities continue as the country addresses the challenges of the pandemic. The NDRRMC and OCD continue to manage the donation drive for PPEs and other vital supplies and equipment to effectively sustain the COVID19 response operations.
