Members of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM) Working Group on Risk Assessment and Awareness will convene for its 5th meeting on 15-16 March 2017 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza, Manila.
The event shall be hosted by National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) through the Office of Civil Defense in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat-Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (DMHA).
Representatives from the 6 member-countries of ACDM namely; Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia and Philippines shall attend the meeting together with officials from the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre), Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) and University of Tokyo.
The ACDM Working Group on Risk Assessment and Awareness (RAA) is mandated to oversee the development of policy and strategic priorities for risk assessment and data sharing protocols. Activities within the RAA involves inter-country collaboration that provides regional benefits in disaster mitigation planning and efforts.
The first day of the convocation will include discussions of the relevant decisions made from the previous working group meeting, updates on the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) Monitoring and Evaluation Frameworks and Tools as well as on the ACDM Risk Assessment and Awareness Work Plan (2016-2022).
The second day will be a field visit in DOST-PAGASA and Quezon City DRRM Office. The Philippines’ best practices in DRRM will be shared to the ASEAN delegates highlighting the country’s DRRM programs and systems towards building resilience.
