Vice Chairperson for Response and Social Welfare and Development Officer-In-Charge Usec Emmanuel A Leyco presided the meeting attended by NDRRMC Executive Director and Civil Defense Administrator Usec Ricardo B Jalad as well as other officials and representatives from the Council member-agencies.
Discussions during the meeting delved on the recent disaster operations which occurred before the end of 2017 and early this year. This included the updates on the continuing response efforts for Mayon Volcano Eruption, and the efforts for TS Urduja, TY Vinta and TD Agaton.
DOST Undersecretary for DRR and Climate Change Renato U Soildum, Jr. presented the updates on the activities of Mayon Volcano and Usec Ricardo B Jalad discussed on its effects and response actions. To date, a total of Php337,937,591.96 worth of food and non-food items were provided for the affected communities in the Province of Albay from OCD, DSWD, DOH, DepEd, DOLE, DENR, PRC, OP, PCSO, IOM, DA, LGUs and NGOs.
Updates on response and early recovery efforts for TS Urduja, TY Vinta and TD Agaton were also delivered by Usec Jalad.
Further, the activities made for the identified key results areas for the magnitude 7.2 earthquake in the Greater Metro Manila Area (GMMA) were presented by DILG-CODIX Director Edgar Allan B Tabell.
Further, details for the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) slated on 15 February 2018, 2:00 PM were mentioned. The ceremonial pilot area is at Quezon City Memorial Circle, Quezon City. Likewise, the schedules for the succeeding quarters were announced to ensure maximum participation of the public to the earthquake drills. It was proposed that the other agencies shall come up with the conduct of differentiated drills to highlight preparations for other hazards.
The proposed guidelines for the 20th Gawad KALASAG National Awards, the premier award-giving body for excellence in DRRM and humanitarian assistance was approved by the members of the Council, upon intergration of the recommended compositon of the National Selection Committee (NSC).
In closing Usec Emmanuel A Leyco encouraged the members of the Council to work together for the recovery and rehabilitation efforts of the recent tropical cyclone which hit the country, and continue with the provison of assistance for the communities affected by Mayon Volcano Eruption.
