NDRRMC holds SIMEX on Taal Volcano worst-case-scenario

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) conducted a Simulation Exercise (SIMEX) for cabinet secretaries and other executives on 30 January 2020 at the NDRRM Operations Center. The SIMEX was focused on testing government plans, preparedness and response measures and generating a harmonized action plan based on a worst-case-scenario on Taal Volcano eruption.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) gathered top officials of its member agencies on Tuesday, 21 January 2020, for an emergency full council meeting. The meeting discussed pressing matters that needed the Council’s decision relative to updates on the recent Taal Volcano eruption as well as recovery from other calamities.

Camp Aguinaldo -- In the Philippines, the “Rehabilitation and Recovery” thematic area has always been the weakest link in the aftermath of disasters. In past disasters (i.e. Typhoons Ondoy, Sendong, Pablo, Yolanda, Bohol and Cebu Earthquakes, etc.) the crafting and implementation of rehabilitation and recovery plans (RRPs) by National Government and LGUs after major disasters were always delayed.
