"Sa kabila ng mga balakid, patuloy nating isinasagawa ang mga nararapat na paghahanda mula sa pagpaplano para sa kaligtasan ng ating mga pamilya hanggang sa paggawa ng mga hakbang para makaiwas sa anumang sakunang dala ng lindol at pandemya." said NDRRMC Chairperson and Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana to the participants who joined the online 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill, 10 September 2020. More than 4,000 people from various localities, organizations, and other government institutions performed the duck, cover and hold procedure as the alarm siren blared at 2:00 PM during the ceremonial pressing of the button shown in both Facebook Live and the OCD-hosted Zoom conference.

OCD Assistant Secretary Casiano Monilla, who opened the program, reminded the public that preparedness starts with one's self. "Ipinapaalala ko sa lahat na ang kahandaan mula sa banta ng mapaminsalang lindol ay nagsisimula sa bawat indibidwal. Kailangan magmula sa bawat mamamayan ang kagustuhan na sila ay maging ligtas." he said.

Other heads of the NDRRMC member-agencies also expressed support and thanked the people for their continued support of preparedness activities like the NSED.

DOST Undersecretary Renato Solidum Jr, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology OIC, reiterated the important reminders on earthquake safety while incorporating public health safety measures such as maintaining physical distancing in evacuation area.

Meanwhile, NEDA Acting Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua, represented by Usec Mercidita Sombillo, explained that the pressing of the button signifies a "whole of government" actions towards building disaster resilience. "It reminds us that with foresight, planning and participation of all sectors in our development efforts, we will persevere. Time and again we have proven to be people of unwavering strength. This, together with our bayanihan spirit will propel us towards adaptive recovery and socioeconomic resiliency."

DSWD Secretary Rolando Joselito Bautista, in his message, reiterated DSWD’s commitment to provide appropriate and timely response to communities affected by hazards and disasters.

Usec Nestor Tinsay, who represented DILG Sec Eduardo Año, on the other hand, encouraged both LGUs and the public to continue building preparedness against earthquakes and other hazards to ensure development and the achievement of the goal of resilience.

OCD Asec. Hernando Caraig, in his closing message, recognized public participation as a symbol of solidarity. "Ang inyong pagdalo at pakikilahok ay sumisimbolo, 'di lamang ng pagkilala natin sa kahalagahan ng pagiging handa sa lindol, kundi pati ng pagkakaisa natin sa layong patatagin ang kahandaan ng mga pilipino sa kahit anumang sakuna." he said.

Regional DRRM councils also reported multi-sector participation to the NSED in their areas through posts in their social media accounts. The live stream of the online 3rd Quarter NSED has already garnered 73,000 views.
